F.A.Q's
Can you explain exactly what you do?
We backup your important files over the internet so if something
happens to your computer, like a hard drive crash, or theft or fire
or accidental deletion etc you can always get them back.
Your files are first encrypted, and compressed before they are sent
over the internet, so you can be assured that your files will be
sent as quickly and as safely as possible.
Why is an Online Backup better than a Tape Backup?
Click here to see the benefits of an Online Backup over a
Tape Backup.
Can I only access my files from my PC?
No, so long as you have your password, you can access your files
from any internet capable computer in the world!
Can you access my files?
No we can't. Your files are encrypted with AES encryption before they
leave your computer. Only the person holding the encryption key can
access your files.
Where are my files stored?
They are stored on one of the NetRescue owned servers. As these
servers are owned by NetRescue, NetRescue has access to them. All
files are then copied, or "replicated" to our backup server, just
in case something happens to our main server.
These servers are housed in New Zealand, under security and are UPS
protected with redundant power.
Will this work over a dial-up connection?
While NetRescue was designed with broadband internet in mind, it
will work over a dial-up connection, although you will have to
establish a connection manually before any scheduled backups.
Will my files ever be unavailable?
We have a time slot between 10pm - 12pm every Saturday night to
possibly take the servers offline for routine maintenance.
What if I forget my password?
You MUST remember your encryption password or write it down and keep
it safe somewhere. We cannot help you to restore your files if you
loose it.
How much data can your system handle?
There is no limit at on our end really, you are only limited by how
much data you can get down your internet connection. On standard ADSL
link, we would recommend up to a 50gig backup would be easily achievable.
What is "in-delta" technology?
This is a feature of our software that allows you to backup large files
that are changing constantly, without sending the whole file again. For
example, if you have a 100meg database file stored on your server, and
you add 2 megs to it, instead of uploading the whole 102 megs again,
our software only sends the parts of the file that have changed so you
only have to upload 2megs.
