What is your Tape Backup
costing you?
Tape backup systems have been the mainstay of most backup plans for many years.
While they do still have a place in large installations, questions have to be asked of
their continuing usefulness for the average New Zealand Small Office / Home Office.

* Costing is of a standard tape backup system. It is based on a Sony
AIT-1 Turbo 40-104Gb internal IDE tape system. The tapes for this drive can contain 40Gigs of compressed data, up to 104Gigs uncompressed data. We have used a standard GFS (Grandfather Father Son) tape rotation system for this example. With this system, 4 tapes are used for daily backups, 5 tapes are used to hold weekly backups, and 13 tapes are used to store monthly tapes, giving a total of 22 tapes used, and assume that the system is useful for 4 years.
** The above NetRescue plan assumes a 20% per month change in data, pricing per month. 50 gigs of compressed data stored with NetRescue will easily match, or beat the 100 gigs of uncompressed data advertised with the above tape backup system.
